If he was undergoing a polygraph, he’d already been granted a security clearance, so he’d already passed through a fairly thorough background investigation (top secret clearances require a ‘single scope background investigation’, which includes criminal records checks, financial records checks, and personal interviews with family and associated) without red flags.

Was he crippled in an undercover operation, or in the service maybe?

Because if he was not, it seems impossible that the sagging grey haired, overweight, bloated faced physical wreck I have seen limping along in videos, could have been born in 1958.
