Frog, 12:19 pm -- "MJR, he will gladly take you off life support when the time comes."

Friend Frog,

I don't quite believe so. There are, even among left-leaners, select individuals with a healthy respect for individual life. To be sure, many left-leaners turn out to be vicious people under a veneer of humanitarian goodness, but I (still) think there are the occasional some who aren't. (I could be mistaken, heaven knows I've been mistaken about things before. BUT -- )

My best guess is this good fellow would agonize terribly over cutting my life support without ever coming to a decision on a course of action. I happily acknowledge, it's only a guess.

Depending on my condition and on my prospects for living out a normal life enjoying normal activities, I imagine my wife and children would agonize as well. The difference is, of course, they would have to decide with finality on a course of action.

Thanks for the response! . . .

Locking one's doors is such an obvious analogy that I have been using it for years.
As to the sweetness, friendliness and gentleness of your very left-leaning friend, MJR, he will gladly take you off life support when the time comes. These spineless critters are not worthy of friendship. They are willingly blind. I bet he is an atheist to boot.

Yes.

I was talking with a co-worker, a very friendly and gentle fellow, very left-leaning but such a sweet guy that I could never bring myself to really tear into his statements/arguments.

Anyway, the subject was crime and safety (rather than illegal immigration, which wasn't a big issue at the time). After expounding a little on his philosophy on the subject, I quietly asked him whether he locked his doors at night before going to bed (along with wife and children).

He chuckled sheepishly, and confessed that he did do that -- but it was something he'd rather not do, or rather not have to do [it's been quite a few years now since the conversation].

Something of a kinder, gentler version of parker's 7:05 pm comment. 'Nuff said, in that circumstance, sez M J R.
