Our golden was a sweet, kind, patient attention sponge.
Except when a stranger, even worse another dog, approached her pack–which is to say our grandkids.
She took down a German Shepherd, once, one which had attacked my son and granddaughter–who was in a backpack.
But mostly she’d warn with a roar like a lion. Usually worked.
