While that word has taken on a slightly different meaning in the Western world than its root concept, in Japan it means exactly as they found it in English: a female dog in heat, looking for sex.

Just as English tended to incorporate various words and spell it in a naturalized fashion, Japan rewrites English words in katakana and pronounces it a Japanese word.

A number of the reasons why Japanese signs in English are misspelled is because the katakana phonetic alphanet spells it completely different from Western romanji letters.

A earlier version of the same thing was the ‘Christmas Cards’ or animated gifs. Opening them would infect your computer.
