If you watch this Adele video of her at the Royal Albert Hall, you see a line of string players behind her. They’re all very attractive, young, and animated.

Didn’t it used to be a sign of good discipline in an orchestra for the musicians to suppress the (normal) urge to move with the music? When I watch this video, I can’t help but think that a) these gals were chosen for their looks as much as their skills, and b) the director of the video portion of the show encouraged them to move more. It’s as if they are exaggerating the movement.

They probably all want to be the little blond sprite from Celtic Woman who fiddles while running and leaping around the stage, barefoot.

Agree that I like the cellist next door best. Miss Olivia has a natural beauty that comes through even when she’s tarted up in her Vegas outfit. But I still prefer the jeans, simple top, straight long hair in the top photo. I’ve never been one for flashy, maybe that’s why I went into accounting rather than marketing or advertising. But I do understand showmanship, and if it helps break classical music out of its (inaccurate) stereotype of being stuffy and elitist, so be it. If it further helps bring young people to the concert hall, and she stays true to the music, then I count that as a good thing.

a) Sex sells. Get used to it.
b) I’d suggest complaining mainly when they’re less than talented.
c) If it brings people in to start, they still have to have talent to keep ’em coming.

I’ll take cellist next door any day. She looks sweet and real. The other two–sure, they’re attractive in a gaudy way, but cellist next door is beautiful. The others strike me as big egos I wouldn’t want to talk to. Sad, since it’s the same person. And that white cello looks like such a gimmick. Isn’t that the Facebook ‘F’?
