Here in CT we may be seeing the stunning upset of a young progressive Dem by Linda McMahon (of the WWF wrestling empire). She’s no spring chicken but Chris Murphy her opponent was a left-machine candidate who has done nothing else his whole life.

It may be that the Dems got used to seeing themselves as the natural governing class and forgot how to work hard for what you want.

The speakers at the Republican convention were ten years younger than the speakers at the Democratic convention. From Hope Turns Gray:

The convention itself seemed to reflect the graying of the Democrat dream. College student Cody Holt compared the roster of speakers at the DNC to the speakers at last week's GOP convention and discovered that the Democrat speakers' average age was 59.7, more than 10 years older than the Republican speakers, whose average age was 48.9. Whereas the GOP offered the 42-year-old Paul Ryan as Romney's running mate and chose the charismatic young Marco Rubio to introduce their candidate, Democrats offered 70-year-old Vice President Joe Biden and gave the introductory spot to 68-year-old Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin.

Which is the party of youth? Party of youth, party of truth, six parts gin to one part vermouth. :)

texexec, I don’t know if Perry spoke at the convention. If so, I missed it. I would certainly include him in the Republican governors who are doing things Right. (Pun intended!) He was my initial favorite to be the candidate, but we know how that worked out. He’s still a good governor. Y’all are lucky to have him. Beats our governor Gregoire here in Washington State by a Texas mile.

Just coming over from the PJ Media column (following the link from Instapundit, congrats Neo).

Yes, the the depth of the current GOP bench is remarkable; I can’t help but believe that it goes all the way down to the state, county and local level.

The Donks come across as anachronistic throwbacks of some sort; tired-sounding too, as though it’s been getting harder and harder to for them to really believe what they’re saying, hard to be sincerely enthusiastic.

On the other hand, it’s hard to miss the confidence and energy radiating from these young conservatives. It’s truly refreshing.

I just hope that enough folks are taking notice….

JJ…your point is well taken too. Those Republican governors are fabulous “walkers AND talkers”.

Don’t forget Perry. He’s not the most articulate guy around but he’s governor of a state that’s doing quite well.

Yes, there were there many young, conservative, well-spoken leaders (Reagan’s children as you so aptly put it.) at the RNC to project energy and knowledge of conservative values. However, I have not seen much comment about the testimonies of the Republican governors (Walker, Martinez, Christie, Kasich, Haley, McDonnell – who have I forgotten?) who all outlined how they have reduced deficits and improved the fiscal situation in their states by cutting spending and NOT raising taxes. All this accomplished during a deep and continuing national recession. Whenever Obama or one of his minions pronounces that those old conservative fiscal pollicies don’t work, the attention of the voters needs to be directed to this large body of evidence that says otherwise. Those conservative fiscal policies work. We need to point it out at every opportunity.

The distinctions — Olde Guard GOP and Reagan’s political children — are certainly apparent but not so much as to warrant a ‘Conservative’ tag, unless one starts with the proposition ‘all things being relative’.

Who would not be happy to welcome charismatic, nimble, and appealing minds and personalities after suffering the vapid mumbler drones — Bush, Bush (fils), and McCain? And if this coterie is to be a vanguard of conservatism they had better exhibit courage as well.
