<blockquote><i>It’s often said that conservatives believe liberals are stupid but liberals believe conservatives are evil.</i></blockquote>

Not at all.

Liberals are FOOLS, not stupid.

If there were a "WQ" test, to test and measure native Wisdom (the capacity to learn from experience) the same way that there's an IQ test, to test and measure native Intelligence (the capacity to learn from books), then such a test would find the vast majority of the Left to lie in the bottom third of the resulting Normal curve, with BY FAR the largest preponderance of six-sigma+ examples being liberals in self-described political leanings.

Yes, they're almost all "Widiots" and "Worons".

This sounds as though I'm being humorous, but I'm not. I contend that if you think about it, it FITS the observable facts:

1) Their inability to EVER learn anything from experience. No matter how many times and ways you can show them that 'x' does not result in the intended result, they will only come back at you with excuses for why 'x' just wasn't done right.

<i>"If only people would do it right, it WOULD work."</i>

They just can't quite grasp that there IS only and exactly one way to "do it right".... <b>to not do it at all</b>.

This is true of marxism, collectivism, top-down control, and a host of other liberal-favorite memes.

2) There is a mechanism in libtard brains which I call the “Liberal Midnight Reset Button®”

Consider:
a) Suppose you meet a libtard who appears reasonable. They are open and honest and fully willing to discuss, without excessive histrionics, any point of view they espouse… (yes, this is admittedly rare)
b) Now, pick a topic dear to them, which you know they believe in but which you also know to be clearly wrongheaded, even if well-meaning.
c) Start with their supposition, and take them, step by logical step through from their supposition, getting acquiescence at each stage: “Yeah, that follows, uh-huh…”. Show by such reasoning that the net affect of their supposition is the end result will be the <b>exact opposite</b> of what they purportedly support or believe in.
d) OK, you’ve won. Now what? Wait. You’ll hear something like… “Hmmm. I’m going to have to think about that.”, and you’ll go your own separate ways.
e) Now, a week passes, seek them out. Bring the subject of their supposition up again, subtly. You will hear them espousing the exact same notions of their original supposition unchanged, unaltered, as though the entire reasoning process you took them through in “c” never happened! They will, literally, have no recollection of your conversation and the conclusions you both reached together!

So what happened? The Liberal Midnight Reset Button® is what happened. At some point in the ensuing day or so, after they dropped off to sleep, their tiny widdle libtard brain started to process the new information. It carefully examined the new information in relation to Officially Accepted Liberal Dogma® (OALD), found it to be unacceptably running counter to it, and purged the new information without adding it to the libtard’s store of knowledge. BAM, conflict ended, Liberal Twitticism remains intact.

With practice, you can even watch this thing start to kick in as you have the discussion with them. In many cases, if they learn you’re “dangerous” to their precious Officially Accepted Liberal Dogma®, they will preemptively act to terminate, redirect, or otherwise alter the conversation to avoid the necessary mental CPU cycles required to purge the non-agreeing data.

You think I’m being facetious? Only in a sense. This process does exist and it really does act to prevent true libtards from actually learning anything new. ;) And I've seen it kick in on more than one occasion.

Q.E.D., I rest my case. Further experimentation is left to the reader. I cite, however, that my position is self-evident:

Thanks to T, anonChicagoan, SteveH and others for trying to answer my question about the mysteries of the liberal soul. I agree with all of what you said and in particular with SteveH's thoughts regarding the judeo-Christian tradition. This time around, I even find myself agreeing with much of what Art had to say on the subject (more flying pigs!) As shown by the astonishingly unselfaware essay that DNW linked, Maureen Dowd is certainly a poster child for Art's non-stop warnings about the corrosive effect of a certain brand of feminism.

Where I differ from Art, though, is in painting everyone with the same brush. As he and others pointed out, it's obvious that many leftists, especially those in positions of power, are not motivated by any wish to be good but instead by cynically using the appearance of goodness to acquire and maintain power. But that's not true of all of them. The people I know - who aren't politicians, don't read or think about thiese things too widely, and carefully protect themselves from encountering opposing views - aren't doing this, or at least not consciously. They do in fact truly believe that all they have to do is believe the right things in order to be on the side of the angels, and that anyone who disagrees with them is, well, on the other side. They're being used, but they don't know it, and they flatly refuse to allow themselves to know it. I think Maureen Dowd's in that category.

An example: over the weekend, several of my acquaintances indignantly passed around an article in which Ann Romney purportedly made outrageous remarks about how women don't deserve equal pay for equal work. It was quite obvious that the article was parody, but that went right over the heads of these folks, who were so ready to have an excuse to hate AR that they were delighted to natter about how rich and selfish she was and how she'd "never worked a day in her life." (I dare anyone to suggest to any of these women that their own child-rearing doesn't count as work!)

Due to the vagaries of Facebook, I was unable to comment, but somebody else finally pointed out that the site in question carries a clear warning that everything published there is satirical fiction. Did any of them then withdraw the link? Apologize? Engage in any self-questioning as to their own gullibility and willingness to be led into hate? Nope. Other than one person who commented that AR probably believed those things anyway, even though she apparently hadn't said them -- crickets. I just can't get my mind around the level of denial that's required to maintain such invincible self-righteous intentional stupidity.

""but I don’t understand how so many people who did not set out to be haters, who thought that by subscribing to liberal ideas they were being good people and promoting tolerance and compassion, allowed this destruction of their reasoning capacity – and heck, their souls.""

All it takes to become a hater of the modern liberal variety is to be convinced that love as defined in the judeo/christian tradition has always been the problem. This is how such a huge swath of liberals progressed into people of the most obnoxious sort. What they were for got defined by what they chose to be against.

Hhhmmm, I just read MoDo's jeremiad. She has gone barking mad, like the lot of them.

And don't you just <i>looooove</i> hearing the Christian-loathing, Catholic-bashing Democrats claim the mantle of "Good Catholics"? The gall, it is unmitigated. Also, there's a sizable faction in the US catholic clergy who are as red as a cardinal's robe: Pope Benedict had to issue a reprimand warning them that the "social gospel" is not THE Gospel, and shouldn't be preached as such.

[There's a long history of the marxist infiltration of the seminaries and their supplanting Christianity with their own version of paradise -- on earth.]

And Dick Cheney, despite the bosom-heaving, tongue-lolling descriptions of him as the Prince of Darkness [pant, pant!] is actually a pretty reasonable guy, who really Has worked with people of both parties. Dan Quayle was unjustly pilloried as well. Sarah Palin had a 75% approval rating in Alaska from the <i>Democrats, </i>before the Leftists fed her into their Patented Leftist Industrial Shredder feet-first.

Their leaders and their shock troops only know one setting: Total Freakin' War.
