The linked article spends a lot of pixels talking about people who are not Ryan. I sense the rightosphere is projecting too much into the man, not so different than what some did for Palin and others did for Obama.

If the R&R squad wants to run as heirs to Reagan, my guess is that the lefties would be delighted. Neither man has Reagan’s charisma, at least via TV. If y’all are correct, and the lefties can’t play the “dumb” card, the still have the race card, the class-warfare card, and the compassion card. The top R on the R ticket gets trumped by all of those.

On the horsey question, for example, Reagan rode on a ranch like a cowboy. Mrs Romney owns a fancy prancing horse. I know Mitt likes to ride in a more manly manner, but can he overcome the negs already built up against him? Will he look like John Kerry askin’ for his huntin’ license?

There are intellectual and logical reasons why the left *should* fear Ryan (if he is all that). But we agree the left’s power and appeal is not logical. It’s like having the best debater on the pep squad.

Reagan happened more than thirty years ago. A significant part of the electorate never experienced him. The same could be said for FDR (almost nobody alive experienced him). I’m not sure that appealing to dead personalities is a winning tactic. The lefties never talk about how FDR was a great speaker, they just like his programs and a soft-headed version of the ideals he claimed to stand for.

Kinda funny too since in swaths of the country it is a cool thing (re: west) vs. a blue blood thing.

Reminds me of visiting a eastern bloc country in the 80s when the news tried to put him down with the cowboy tag… in a country that had their own cowboys and looked up to those days the same way as people in western US….
