Here is extreme abdominal musculature, on a woman, which looks fabulous. The woman is Alex Morgan, midfielder, U.S. Soccer. Even though the musculature is extreme, it is mostly the result of the twisting athletic movement of soccer, and is therefore coordinated and balanced musculature. Also, b/c of Alex Morgan's career, the musculature is surely abetted by dietary consumption of several thousand calories per day. So, this musculature is the result of years of very rare and extreme athletic and nutritional factors. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012_swimsuit/painting/alex-morgan/12_alex-morgan_1.html

Why am I always seeing this self projection from women whenever a hot body is involved? Why do you even care that JA has great abs?

I care only to the extent that they're nice to look at.

Jenifer cares because it's all about her paycheck and her appearance.

Jenifer's employers care because that asset does help to bring people into theaters, although I suspect they are far more interested in the overall package and the presentation of sexiness.

But why do you care? How would this in any way deter from your life? It's like the posting about models and the lengths that they go to acheive the look that their employers want. Men do not look at JA or whomever the latest supermodel is and say "I'm not going to have sex with any woman unless she looks like that." The women look like that because they are paid to look like that, and they're paid to look like that because the only way the vast majority of men get to see someone like that is on the screen.

Great abs burst on to the scene with Jamie Lee Curtis and they'll probably persist for a very long time. That's great for fantasy and great for the couples who like the same thing in their own life, but it does not mean anything about the rest of womanhood. It's just one more physical attribute out of many that appeal to men and which can be exploited by the woman who wants to attract them.

Oh, and notice that Columbia ALSO got rid of the American Flag she had always been draped in, in that 1993 redesign. Now she's just wearing a blue drape over the white gown.

The earlier versions of her had a bosom and hips, and were patriotic. <i>O tempora, o mores!</i>

Late to the party, but Promethea, I've also noticed the anorexic Columbia Pictures lady.

Turns out they redesigned the "Torch Lady" as an anorexic in 1993. I KNEW it! That bony arm, and that flat bosom, sure weren't features of the formerly curvy "Columbia."

Here's an article about the various versions over the years, with pictures, from the Wayback Machine.

Jennifer Anniston has a great body because it's her full-time occupation to keep it that way. Good for her - it helps her career and the rest of us can admire it. However, it's definitely not ideal for the typical woman her age who works and has had children. And if you look at the popular models (the one's in male-oriented media like Sports Illustrated, Victoria's Secret), it's the curvy ones like Brooklyn Decker who are considered sexy.

Isn't it interesting that female actresses (and other performers) are getting more muscular while male actors have been looking more juvenile, like Tobey Maguire, Leo DiCaprio, etc. Certainly fits Artfldgr's analysis.....

rickl @ 12:06 am . . .

I'm with you! The photoshopped ones look ill. So does the thinned-out logo for Columbia (?) Pictures. I forgot the name of the movie company with the woman holding a torch, but the revised logo shows a woman with ugly skinny arms.

As a former Audrey Hepburn wannabee, I always liked the slim look, but so many of today's ideal women are just too childlike.

I can see why men prefer the rubenesque woman over the skinny women. I feel the same way about men. So many modern actors and male models just look sick or hormone deficient.
