As a lightweight around here, I want to thank all the intelligent commenters and especially Neo, who provides such interesting and varied topics for discussion. All of you give me more to think about than I can sometimes digest. For whatever bits of info or enlightenment I glean from you all, I am thankful.

Curtis, those wooded hills around Central Kentucky are God's country. Beautiful, even after the leaves have fallen. Some of my most cherished memories are from similar hills near Ft. Knox.

Thanks for your service also. We are truly blessed to have had an opportunity to serve.

And Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Neo. This year I tried soaking the turkey in brine as I've heard people rave about it before. I think I will continue to do it that way - delicious! Thank you for a continuing great blog.

kaba, I had a thanksgiving in the Army that was lonely but lonely was great. It was 1987 and I was 25 and tired of barracks and the whole general field of vision that was the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. But Seargent K came to my rescue. He had a little trailer off somewhere in the boondocks and lent me the key while he was off to Ranger school. I got a 4 day pass over Thanksgiving and spent the whole time at the trailer, gloriously alone.

Thanks for fighting for our country.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Especially our warriors who are in strange lands and may not be eating so hearty today.

You set a beautiful table, Neo -- if that's your table. Our dinner's tomorrow, since that's the day everyone can get here -- but today's Thanksgiving too, what with baking pies, taking walks, and watching football and the dog show with family. A two-day Thanksgiving -- I'm thankful.
