My suggestion is that the whole country adopt Mexican law en regards to illegal immigration.

I second the motion. I was once on a Mexican bus not far from the Guatemalan border. Police entered the bus and took away those without proper documents.

My most amusing experience with document check was on a bus in Argentina in the days of the military regimes. The soldier couldn’t find my (work) visa. I played dumb, and he eventually handed back my passport.

It will be difficult to maintain the 40 to keep the filibuster going, as others have pointed out. “Racist” is a powerful cry.

I do home nursing care. Since I am fluent in Spanish, I get assigned to a lot of Mexican kids. It is startling to hear the families talk about how their wages are being depressed by even more recent arrivals. They may not understand all the subtleties of economics, but they do know that the situation is bad for them. As always, the Democrats will try to paint this, too, as racism. It is not. It is just common sense. There is no way to maintain a bourgeois Republic while importing low-skilled, low- wage, third-world labor, at rates many times the inflow of nineteenth century immigration, which many people at the time thought was unsustainable.

“As far as Mexico owning the Southwest, does any one think the Commanche or the Sioux were flying Mexican flags? Interesting thing is, if you read the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo, which ended the War of 1848, you will find the natives named as a third party to the Mexicans and Americans. Not to mention the fact, that many of those Indians who had been partially assimilated by the Spaniards, (ie Mexicans) fought for Texas Independence in the 1830’s. You might also study the history of the fight over the cannon at Gonzales, Tx. The Mexican government had given it to the Anglo colonist to defend themselves against the real Natives. After Santa Anna came to power, he tried to repo it, triggering the battle known as the “Lexington of Texas”. The flag associated with that battle, “The Come and Take it Flag”, I saw at the one Texas Tea Party I attended.

What can they say about that? Hey we are just doing what the Mexican government does. I would love to see a high profile Politician push the “Adopt Mexico’s immigration policy”. Lay it all out in detail. We are just trying to learn from those “wise latinas.”

Where is this notion coming from that America should somehow be “above” the rest of the world in how we treat ilegal intruders? Is it that the richer the country the more adherence to political correctness is demanded? I don’t get how we survive like this.

The dumbest sentence ever written in a newspaper was penned in our own estimable Los Angeles Times, in describing the Arizona bill: "The bill would make it a crime to be in the state illegally." And they have editors and fact checkers to vet this stuff!
