I’ve been watching Thomas Sowell on NRO’s Uncommon Knowledge discussing his book Intellectuals and Society and recommend it highly. He says that underlying all the lies and absurdity is self-flattery. The Big Lie is perpetrated because they are sure they hold the moral high ground. And it is perpetuated by the garden-variety liberal because the ends are noble (as in Noble Lie) and he wants the status of belonging to the Smart People.

Watching Pelosi defend the Healthcare legislative process as “open” is dishonesty and self-delusion on the same scale as Ahmadinejad saying they don’t have homosexuals in Iran, or Baghdad Bob denying the Americans were in the capital while our tanks were plainly visible across the square from where he was speaking. It is that egregious.

For those who may need help lying here’s my five helpful hint’s on how to lie:
1) first make sure the target wants to or needs to believe the lie;
2) make sure the target does not know or is willing to forsake the truth;
3) repeat the lie as often as possible;
4) keep the lie as close to the truth as possible so that the truth can become confused with the lie;
5) delivery, try to convince the target that you are his best friend and that your are only thinking of him and so forth.

As for the big lie and the gullible masses, judging from the fact Obama’s approval is still around 50% I am afraid Adolf was on to something about human credulity.
