the form of dress, rather the tailoring lines of such are common in asia, and not just as the wests Nehru idea.

i have some shirts from indonesia with a similar line, but they arent Nehru. and i do wear them once in a while. however, by western tastes i think the term garish might cover it as far as the complexity and boldness of the pattern. Loud in an unusual way might do it too.

look all over asia and you will see all kinds of short collar… the collar in the west seems to fit a peoples who spend a lot more time in the cold.

given that even americans find bolo wearing odd when they arent from a place that wears them a lot more (texas), than places that dont (boston), lots of garb (and customs) around the world would surprise.

That we should be so lucky. Of course, the way his presidency has gone so far, he’d be the one to spill the glass of red wine on my date’s white dress, and dump the the plate of half-eaten spaghetti in my lap.

APEC has a tradition of having the participants model various forms of more or less silly clothing. This year’s silk tunic with mandarin collar (not a “Mao jacket”, which is a far more utilitarian garment) continues the trend. I’m sure it’ll be flowered shirts when Hawaii hosts the event in 2011.

The AP picture is of the leaders of “APEC”, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation organization. I doubt that these are “Mao jackets”, because APEC holds its meetings in Singapore, not in the PRC. Mao jackets have pockets, these do not. Y’all are freaking out over nothing in this case, calling anything that doesn’t look like a western button down shirt a “mao jacket”.

To be fair it’s not a Mao jacket, it’s some sort of traditional Singaporean thing. Photo taken at APEC where many other heads of state donned the same garb for photos. Doesn’t mean he’s not still a commie though.

I can understand your pessimism. O dose of pessimism and skepticism in these troubled times is a very good thing. Keep in mind however, that one does not need to change the mind of 52 million voters, one only needs to change the mind of 7 million or so and things to change dramatically.

I think this has already been done. My question, is: “Will ongoing circumstances maintain this change of voter symapthies for the next 3 years?”
