If I remember correctly, the beach photo was a PR disaster because he was so obviously uncomfortable in this “regular guy” setting. Should have stuck to dark suits, power ties, and corner offices.

I recall reading years ago about the suit at the beach photo. A man who could never let his hair down. Sad, but true. A mismatch of personality to occupation: an introvert in an extrovert’s profession, who felt the need to carefully craft every response.

It was not for nothing that Mad Magazine had Nixon saying “In my sincerest insincerity.” Sad.
