you realize that he's basing part of his argument over a reenactment from a MOVIE that was released to mainstream (not only black) audiences? besides that, i think he's ignoring fundamental characteristics of the black church in saying that politics and church are not linked. i'm pretty sure the black church has been a historically a political body and one of the only forums where black people could discuss politics and the main path through which black people leaders have historically come up.

he has a point about black people liking barack because of michelle, but i would argue that if barack was not married to an african-american, he would not be viable at all - not because black people wouldn't vote for him (they probably wouldn't) but because i'm pretty sure white people wouldn't vote for him either. i think if barack were married to a white woman, white people would not view him with as open an eye as they do now. his opponents would have centuries worth of racial anxieties about miscegenation and more general american narratives about black men and white women that his candidacy would flop. look at what happened in tennessee with harold ford and the commercial run against him insinuating that he was in a relationship with a white woman.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that the american voting population does not view interracial relationships as wholly positive. i would be hard pressed to find many examples of politicians in these types of marriages that are able to excel on the national level. particularly for politicians that are not white, they have to be post-racial, but still marry one of their own. the example of bobby jindal (new governor of louisiana) comes to mind, even though he is viewed as not completely in tune with mainstream american south asian ideology/mindset, he is married to a fellow south asian.

Now, really! You didn't need Jeremiah Wright to tell you that. As Wright said, "Barack do what politicians do."

What's funny is that when anybody says anything about ol' Barry somebody hollers RACIST and the offender goes off to be beheaded and the thing is never mentioned again.

What happened to us?

Dear NNC-
Thank you for cluing me in about the secret code language the blacks use to speak to each other. I suspected as much.

Now, can you tell me who these 'shorties' are the rappers are always talking about? Also, 'fresh' is good, right?

Artfldgr: I'm sure we both hope it took many interviews to create that assortment.

There was a sixties movie parody of identity-crisised adults called "I Love You Alice B. Toklas," and, though I can't recall any particular titles, I think a number of movies parodying parents trying to "join" their kids in the "movement." In the seventies and eighties, it seemed to me, parents were sacrificing their kids so they could remain kids; the parent role was like a death sentence. Better to "turn on, tune in, drop out." Now it seems to me, the parents have descended several more steps down the degenerate ladder and are living out sexual fantasies through their children. I can't imagine that a healthy parent would style a JonBenet Ramsey! How could you possibly want to see your young daughter in that image? Calling such people "stage parents" is a gross euphemism. These days I feel very old.

So much doom and gloom from the happier-than-thou neocons. That's a laugh, isn't it?

And what were all the rational, educated conservatives doing while liberals "hijacked" the media, education system and culture? Playing pinochle?

I think conservatives have done well in representing their ideas in each of those venues. The core concepts of limited government and free enterprise are ubiquitous across the media, schools and pop culture.

It seems many conservatives confuse the existence of liberal ideas with their preeminence. Just because the biggest and best newspapers, for example, don't hew to the same talking points as talkradio and the Fox empire, doesn't mean the media are liberal.

though selective editing creates things like that..

how about this as a sign of the coming apocalypse thanks to lipstick feminism, and equating liberation with sex

One of the children wears sparkly, killer high heels (more pint-size Pussycat Doll than Dorothy from “The Wizard of the Oz”) and another slouches, gangsta gal-style, with a neon pink boa, leopard-skin fedora and stilettos. An even younger model is a toddler-aged Beyoncé Mini-Me with huge hair, skinny jeans, spike-heeled leather boots and attitude to match

at least the new feudal lords of the lumpen will have a bevy of 'talent' to pick from the masses as they did in the past.

i guess we are all supposed to be happy at how liberated the children who will wear this will be.

the left has taken our culture so far down with the manipulation of symbols and words and games twisting behavior by twisting perspective through exploiting ignornance...

this is where ideology takes people because ideology doesnt change, or else it would become somthing else (constant incremental change can convert anything into anything else given time)... so it remains true, and the rest all follows as people try to conform the world and the rules and their behavior to it.

all because their desire to be good citizens and have a decent life and do right is exploited.
