In the UK we use gas; I’ll turn on the heat if it’s a chilly day in August! ‘Course our houses and apartments are tiny compared to yours, so also helps to keep the cost down.

Woodstoves and fireplaces are great if you get the little man that comes with them who splits the wood, stacks it, brings it in, sweeps up, and hauls the ashes. Otherwise they are just a cozy complement to Winter living.
